Xero FIRS/NRS E-Invoicing Integration for Nigeria

How Xero users in Nigeria connect to the NRS e-invoicing system via ZUTAX's native marketplace app, without replacing Xero or building custom integrations.

ZUTAX Team

Nigerian businesses using Xero face the same question QuickBooks users do: how do you meet FIRS/NRS e-invoicing requirements without giving up the accounting platform you already rely on? For Xero, the answer is a native marketplace integration rather than a platform switch.

What Xero Doesn’t Do (And Why That’s Fine)

Xero is built for accounting — invoicing, reconciliation, reporting — not for Nigeria-specific tax compliance infrastructure. It has no concept of an Invoice Reference Number, NRS schema validation, ECDSA digital signatures, or Peppol network transmission, because none of that is relevant outside Nigeria’s e-invoicing mandate. That’s expected: compliance is a layer you add, not a feature you should expect from a global accounting platform.

How the ZUTAX–Xero Integration Works

ZUTAX provides a native Xero marketplace app, installed from within Xero itself:

  1. Continue invoicing in Xero as usual
  2. The integration reads invoice data (buyer details, TIN, line items, VAT breakdown) from Xero
  3. ZUTAX validates the invoice, generates the IRN, applies the digital signature and QR code, and transmits it through the Peppol network via a certified Access Point Provider
  4. Compliance status (validated, transmitted, rejected) syncs back into your Xero record

Your Xero workflow doesn’t change — the compliance work happens behind it.

Setting Up Xero with ZUTAX

  1. Confirm your TIN and VAT registration are in order (see our registration guide if not)
  2. Create your ZUTAX account and configure your business profile with your NRS Business ID
  3. Install the ZUTAX app from the Xero marketplace and authorize the connection
  4. Send test invoices and confirm valid IRNs are returned before going live

When You Need More Than the Marketplace App

Most Xero users are well served by the marketplace app. If you run a non-standard Xero setup — custom invoice fields, a multi-entity structure, or a workflow the app doesn’t cover — ZUTAX’s REST API and webhooks give you the flexibility to build exactly what you need.
